What is Puckdoku?
Puckdoku is an online puzzle game designed for NHL fans. Each day, players are presented with a 3x3 or 5x5 grid where each cell must be filled with the name of an NHL player. The catch? Every player you select must satisfy two conditions—one defined by the column and one by the row.
For example, if the top of a column lists the Toronto Maple Leafs and the side of the row lists 100+ point season, your answer must be a player who played at least one NHL game for Toronto and recorded a season with 100 or more points.
The game rewards both accuracy and creativity, encouraging rare but valid answers that showcase your deep NHL knowledge.
Puckdoku Gameplay Explained
The Goal
The objective of Puckdoku is simple in concept but tricky in execution: fill each cell with a valid NHL player who satisfies both the row and column conditions. You’re challenged daily with a new grid that may ask for combinations such as:
Played for Montreal Canadiens & Won a Vezina Trophy
Member of Colorado Avalanche & 50+ Goal Season
Played for both Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins
Key Rules
A player must have played at least one NHL regular season game for the franchise listed in the criteria.
Each player can only be used once per puzzle.
Answers are scored based on rarity—the more obscure your pick, the better your score!
Some grids include statistical requirements (e.g., goals, assists, points, shutouts).
Historical and retired players are fully eligible, as long as they meet the criteria.
Daily Challenge Format
Puckdoku offers a daily puzzle format—similar to games like Wordle or Immaculate Grid. This format encourages you to return every day to challenge yourself, improve your score, and compare results with friends or the global leaderboard.
Why Puckdoku Is So Addictive
What makes Puckdoku so popular among sports fans is the perfect blend of trivia and logic. It’s not just about knowing the stars—sometimes it's the journeymen, one-season wonders, or veteran backup goalies that help you achieve a high rarity score.
Whether you're reliving your favorite players from the 90s or showing off your knowledge of today’s young stars, Puckdoku taps into the love of hockey history and the challenge of memory.
